Mr. Paul Morton
Mr. Paul Morton attended and graduated from West Virginia University in 1985 with a degree in music education. In the fall of 1985, he became band director of McArthur High School in Hollywood, Florida and stayed in that position for six years. In 1991, Mr. Morton took the position of band director at Driftwood Middle School (also in Hollywood, Florida) and is still in that position today.
Growing up in southwestern Pennsylvania, Mr. Morton started playing the clarinet in the third grade. He continued to play the clarinet through middle school but made the switch to the tuba when he went to High School. The tuba soon became his instrument of choice. Mr. Morton had great musical success in high school and so he auditioned for West Virginia University where he received a scholarship to study music education.
Over the years, Mr. Morton’s bands have received top honors at band festivals with consistent superior ratings at Music Performance Assessments. Due to the success of Mr. Morton’s bands, he was elected to become a music adjudicator for the Florida Band Master’s Association. He is often hired to travel around the state of Florida to evaluate concert bands, jazz bands and individuals (Solo and Ensembles).
Along with his responsibilities at school, Mr. Morton is also the Music Director at Plantation Community Church. Paul is married to Zuli Morton and they each have two children from previous marriages: Casey 30, Eileen 24, David 21 and Haylee 18. Zuli is the church administrator for First Baptist Church of Hollywood. The children are all very active musicians and enjoy performing.
